- Usually the dislocation is reduced under short anaesthesia to avoid pain and further injury.
- In certain situations, the dislocation may be reduced without anaesthesia if the patient is not too muscular and the surgeon is experienced.
Forceful attempt at reduction should be avoided. It may cause further damage or fracture. Moreover, it can increase the chance of future dislocations.
Recovery after Shoulder Dislocation reduction
- After successful reduction of the dislocated joint, the patient is advised to wear an arm sling.
- The rehab exercises are started as soon as tolerated.
- The Shoulder joint should not be immobilized, else stiffness will develop.
